Recently we were invited to take part in a very poignant morning commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day. The theme this year was ‘For a Better Future’. George, Georgina, Henry and Isabelle told the congregation about how we in school regularly think about how we can contribute to making a better future for us all. Making the better world a better place begins with small actions. It starts with how we treat each other every day—in school, at home, and in our communities. When we include someone who feels left out, when we show kindness to someone who is struggling, and when we refuse to judge others based on their appearance, beliefs, or background, we take steps toward building a better future. Representatives from our school choir sang ‘What a Wonderful World’ as a sign of our commitment to making a better future. The children learned a lot listening to the guest speaker Judith Hayman from the Northern Holocaust Education Group who told us about her Mum’s experiences during World War II and received special certificates from The Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire Mrs Amanda Parker JP.
