To prepare for Christmas, Year 4 have been basing their English lessons on the short story ‘One Christmas Wish’ by Katherine Rundell. They read the first two pages together and analysed the structure and hook of the story’s opening, before planning and writing their own beginning section to a Christmas story. There was a lot of creativity on show, and a lot of children chose a horror twist to hook the reader in!
In the following days, the children read the rest of the story and discussed the key events, which helped to inspire their own group Christmas stories. The children worked in groups of 3 to make a story plan with a beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending section. The children then went in the hall to create drama performances of their stories. After plenty of time to prepare and rehearse, the children performed their drama sequences to the rest of the class, who had to guess the main events of the story line.
