This year, The Willows have joined forces with the team at Cross Curricular Orienteering to really enhance the active lessons we offer the children and the orienteering opportunities the children can experience across school.

On Tuesday 16th September, we held our school-wide orienteering launch day, where a member of the Cross Curricular Orienteering showed the children (and staff!) how fun and engaging orienteering can be! The children were taught simple map reading and symbol skills relevant to their age range, before working with a partner to navigate a map and orienteering course. The children had an amazing time as you can see from the pictures, exploring all areas around school while trying to carefully work out their next target location.

We plan to build on this massively this year, with a ‘World Book Day’ and Christmas Cracker’ whole-school event already planned for all year groups. The big day to look forward to though is our Outdoor Learning Day, where we will be holding a chip-timed orienteering competition throughout the day with an electronic leaderboard displaying each class’s quickest performers and the quickest performers across the whole school!
