Year 4 have been learning all about different habitats in science, specifically understanding how different animals are well suited to their habitats. We went exploring around our school grounds and around our vast church woods to see firsthand what the different habitats were like and what creatures we could find living there.
Armed with our collection trays and tweezers, we first explored our Forest School area, lifting logs, containers and routing through the undergrowth. We had a long talk about respecting habitats and making sure we return rocks, logs or debris back to its original position to keep the habitat intact. We then explored the field and hedgerows around school on our way to the orchards and woodlands of our church. Along the way, there was lots of adventuring and excitement as the children collected worms, snails, beetles, bugs and other delights. We also saw over 5 bird species and squirrels too in the woods.
The children treated all of the habitats and creatures with great respect, carefully returning them to the hedgerow once we had had plenty of opportunity to examine the creatures we found. Well done Year 4!
