Year 4’s Geography topic this half term is ‘Life In The Alps’, and part of this topic compares the locality and economy of Chamonix, France, with our local area of Kirkham.

We went on a fieldtrip as a class on Monday 6th October, walking a pre-planned route which we mapped. We walked round to the library via Mellor Road, before heading to the high street and up to the market square. Along the way we saw lots of shops, businesses and local amenities. Some of the children even completed surveys, asking local residents of what they thought of Kirkham and the leisure facilities and amenities there were there. Once back in school, we categorised the facilities and amenities in Kirkham into either human or physical, wich will help us when making the comparisons with Chamonix in future lessons.

We also decided to make a difference to Kirkham along the way, taking out litter pickers to clean up the streets of rubbish and were shocked to collect a full bin-bag full!
