As part of Year 4’s ‘Environment’ topic, we have been learning about the havoc plastic can wreak on our environment. We have decided to experiment making sustainable alternatives to plastic that are biodegradable and just as useful! We made fridge magnets from the curdled remnants of whole milk mixed with white vinegar. The children had a brilliant time mixing the substances and sieving the mixture to make a moist putty from the curdled milk. This was then dried and molded, before being coloured with food dye and a magnet added. After 3-4 days, the magnets have dried rock-hard and have worked brilliantly. They are just as durable and light as plastic and would biodegrade without causing any damage to the environment.
