Year 4 have been learning all about the story of Abraham, and the covenant he made with God. The children first sequenced and understood the stages of Abraham’s journey, then delved deeper into what a covenant is, focusing specifically on God’s covenant with Abraham. To go beyond just describing what Abraham did at each part of the story, we decided to write questions focusing on Abraham’s feelings, like why did he keep faith for so long that God was going to deliver? Why do you think God chose you out of all the millions of people?

We then did a hot-seating activity, where several children had the chance to dress up in role as Abraham and have a go at answering some of the questions the children had prepared. I was amazed at the level of inference and reasoning in the answers, which we built upon in class discussion. Well done Year 4!
