Year 4 have been forced into radical action after more recent car crashes and still no safe crossing from Kirkham over Preston New Road – NO MORE! We have written to our local M.P. urging him to act in the safety of our community and to install a safe crossing place.

Year 4 have been focussing on persuasive writing in English lessons and decided to put their persuasive powers to the test by writing to our local M.P., Andrew Snowden, to try to convince him to install a pelican crossing near the Kirkham / Ribby Hall roundabout on Preston New Road. Any new housing estate built seems to get a new crossing, yet an entire town has no route over this busy road and what’s more, school children like ours have to cross this to go swimming! The children came up with incredible arguments showing such passion and applied all the necessary features like rhetorical questions, bossy tone and exaggeration. We wrote this on school’s headed paper to add formality and have put it in a large, stamped envelope with Mr. Sharrock’s covering letter for Mr. Snowden.

On Monday 6th October, Year 4 will be posting the collated letters together as a class at the Kirkham post office. Mr. Snowden’s office in St Annes will receive it within the week. If he does not respond via the pre-stamped envelope, we will be sending further letters, completing traffic surveys as supporting evidence, completing questionnaires and starting an official petition. Well done Year 4 for trying to make a genuine difference for the sake of our community!
