Catholic Life at The Willows

At The Willows Catholic Primary School, our Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do. It shapes our relationships, guides our decisions and inspires us to create a loving community where every child is welcomed, valued and encouraged to flourish.

Our school motto, "God loves me, God loves everyone," reminds us that each person is precious in the eyes of God.

Our mission reflects this belief:

"With Christ at our heart, we are a loving, caring family where each individual is nurtured in mind and spirit to fully become the person God created."

We want children to experience God's love throughout their time at The Willows and develop the faith, knowledge, values and confidence to make a positive difference in the world.

Christ at the Centre of School Life

Our Catholic identity is reflected in the daily life of our school. We strive to create an environment where the teachings of Jesus influence how we learn, work, play and treat one another.

Children are encouraged to show love, kindness, honesty, forgiveness and compassion. They learn to recognise the dignity of every person and understand their responsibility to care for others.

Our faith is not limited to Religious Education lessons or times of prayer. It is expressed through the relationships we build, the choices we make and the way we respond to people in need.

We welcome families from all backgrounds and faith traditions, asking everyone to respect and share in the values that underpin our Catholic community.

Growing in Faith Through Religious Education

Religious Education is central to our curriculum and the Catholic life of the school.

We follow the Religious Education Directory, To Know You More Clearly, helping children develop their knowledge and understanding of Catholic beliefs, Scripture and the teachings of the Church.

Through the six branches of the curriculum, children explore the story of salvation, the life and teachings of Jesus, the Sacraments and what it means to live as a Christian.

We encourage children to ask thoughtful questions, reflect on what they learn and consider how their faith can influence their lives.

Our Religious Education curriculum also helps children develop respect for other religions and worldviews.

Further information can be found on our Religious Education page.

Our Values and Virtues

Throughout the year, we focus on values and virtues that help children grow in character and faith.

These include being loving and compassionate, hopeful and faithful, grateful and generous, active and curious, courageous and truthful, and aspirational and discerning.

We help children understand what these qualities mean and how they can demonstrate them in everyday situations.

Whether supporting a friend, showing forgiveness, taking responsibility or making a difficult but right choice, children are encouraged to follow the example of Jesus.

Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching helps children understand that faith calls us to act with justice, compassion and love.

We teach children that every person has dignity, that we belong to one human family and that we have a responsibility to care for those most in need.

Through our curriculum and wider school experiences, children explore important principles such as human dignity, the common good, solidarity and care for God's creation.

These teachings encourage pupils to consider the needs of others, challenge unfairness, care for the environment and understand how even small actions can make a difference.

Celebrating Our Faith

The Church's liturgical year is an important part of school life.

During Advent and Christmas, we prepare for and celebrate the birth of Jesus. During Lent and Holy Week, we reflect on his suffering and sacrifice. At Easter, we celebrate the joy of the Resurrection.

We also mark other important feasts and occasions, including Pentecost, Marian celebrations and the feast days of saints.

Through Mass, prayer, music, Scripture, reflection and acts of service, children experience the richness of Catholic tradition and develop a deeper understanding of their faith.

Children as Witnesses to Faith

We believe children have an important contribution to make to the Catholic life of our school.

Through opportunities to lead prayer, support others, take on responsibilities and participate in Mini Vinnies, pupils are encouraged to put their faith into action.

We want children to recognise that being a follower of Jesus means serving others with generosity, humility and compassion.

Living Our Mission

The Catholic life of The Willows is reflected in ordinary moments as well as special celebrations.

We see it when children welcome someone new, care for a friend, forgive one another, help someone in need or show respect for God's creation.

Our aim is for every child to leave The Willows knowing that they are loved by God, recognising the gifts they have been given and understanding how they can use those gifts for the good of others.

With Christ at our heart, we learn, grow and live together as one loving family.
