Welcome to Year 3!

A new classroom, new opportunities and the beginning of life in the Juniors! Year 3 marks an important stage in children's education as they move into Key Stage 2 and begin to develop greater independence.

Our class teacher is Miss Wain, supported by Mrs Noble. We are also fortunate to have Mrs Hayes, who leads our Forest School sessions.

We aim to make the transition to the Juniors a positive and enjoyable experience, helping every child feel settled, confident and ready to embrace new challenges. Our learning encourages curiosity, creativity and problem-solving as children explore increasingly challenging ideas across the curriculum.

Year 3 also brings exciting opportunities, including swimming lessons, which help children develop confidence, resilience and important life skills.

Our Catholic Life

Our Catholic faith encourages us to think about how we can make a positive difference to others. We explore the teachings of Jesus and learn how to put our faith into action through kindness, compassion and service.

On Monday and Wednesday mornings, we join the whole school for Celebration of the Word. On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, we gather for class Celebration of the Word, led by children or staff. As we begin Key Stage 2, we encourage children to take increasing responsibility for preparing prayers, choosing appropriate resources and leading parts of our celebrations.

Supporting Learning at Home

Regular reading remains essential. We encourage children to read widely, discuss what they have read and begin developing their own reading preferences.

Practising spellings and times tables, particularly the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, will help children develop fluency and confidence in their learning.

Things to Remember

• PE Days: Monday and Tuesday

• Swimming: Monday afternoon

• Music with Miss Mallinson: Friday morning

• Private Instrumental Lessons: Brass and string lessons take place on Tuesdays. Woodwind lessons take place on Thursdays for children receiving instrumental tuition.

Above all, we want children to enjoy their first year in the Juniors, develop strong friendships and discover just how much they are capable of achieving.
