Welcome to Year 4!

Year 4 is a year of discovery, determination and developing confidence. We encourage children to challenge themselves, think carefully about their learning and take pride in doing their very best.

Our class teacher is Mr Sharrock, supported by Mrs Noble. We are also fortunate to have Mrs Hayes, who leads our Forest School sessions.

Throughout the year, children deepen their understanding of the curriculum through engaging lessons, practical experiences and opportunities to work together. We want them to become enthusiastic readers, thoughtful writers and confident mathematicians who are willing to explain their ideas and learn from mistakes.

One of the exciting opportunities in Year 4 is our Brass for All programme, which introduces children to playing a brass instrument and develops their musical knowledge and skills.

Our Catholic Life

Our faith reminds us that everyone has unique gifts and talents to share. We encourage children to recognise their strengths, support one another and follow Jesus' example in the way they treat others.

Every Monday and Wednesday morning, we gather with the whole school for Celebration of the Word. On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, we celebrate God's Word in class, with celebrations led by children or staff. Children are encouraged to take an increasingly active role by preparing Scripture readings, prayers and thoughtful reflections.

Supporting Learning at Home

Reading regularly helps children develop vocabulary, comprehension and a love of books. We encourage children to explore different authors and talk about what they enjoy reading.

In mathematics, we place particular emphasis on becoming fluent with multiplication tables up to 12 × 12. Regular, short bursts of practice at home, alongside reading and learning spellings, will help children prepare for the Multiplication Tables Check and strengthen the mathematical skills they will use throughout school.

• Music with Miss Mallinson: Wednesday morning

• Brass for All: Tuesday afternoon

• Private Instrumental Lessons: Brass and string lessons take place on Tuesdays. Woodwind lessons take place on Thursdays for children receiving instrumental tuition.

In Year 4, we celebrate perseverance, teamwork and kindness. We want every child to finish the year feeling more independent, capable and proud of what they have accomplished!
