Faith Community

At The Willows Catholic Primary School, we are proud to be part of a loving, active and welcoming faith community.

Our Catholic faith is at the centre of school life. It shapes how we pray, learn, celebrate and care for one another.

We work together with our families, parish, local community and wider Church to help every child know that they are loved by God and called to live with faith, hope and love.

A Catholic Community

The Willows is more than a school.

It is a community where children, staff, families, governors and parish work together to live out the teachings of Jesus.

We want every child to feel valued, respected and supported. We encourage our pupils to use their gifts to help others and to make a positive difference in the world.

Our faith is lived out through prayer, worship, service, kindness, forgiveness and care for those in need.

A School of Sanctuary

The Willows is proud to be working as a School of Sanctuary.

This means we are committed to being a place of welcome, safety and belonging for everyone, including people seeking sanctuary.

As a Catholic school, this work is rooted in our belief that every person is made in the image and likeness of God. We teach children to recognise the dignity of every human being and to respond to others with compassion, respect and love.

Our School of Sanctuary work helps children understand what it means to welcome others, stand with people in need and build a community where everyone feels safe and valued.

Parish Links

Our school has strong links with our parish community.

We work closely with our parish priest and parishioners to support the spiritual life of the school. Children take part in Masses, liturgies, prayer services and special celebrations throughout the year.

These opportunities help children understand that they are part of the wider Catholic Church, not just a school community.

Our parish links also support children as they prepare for the sacraments. Families, school and parish work together to help children grow in faith and deepen their relationship with God.

Families as Partners in Faith

Parents and carers are the first teachers of faith.

At The Willows, we value the important role that families play in helping children grow in love, prayer and understanding.

We encourage families to support children in learning traditional prayers, attending Mass, taking part in school celebrations and living out Gospel values at home.

Throughout the year, families are invited to join us for Masses, liturgies, assemblies, sacramental celebrations and special events linked to the Church’s year.

By working together, we help children see that faith is lived at home, in school, in church and in the wider community.

Living Out Our Faith

Our faith community is built on action.

Children are encouraged to show their faith through the way they treat others.

This includes:

  • caring for people who are lonely or in need
  • welcoming those who are new
  • showing kindness and respect
  • forgiving others
  • working for justice
  • protecting God’s creation
  • serving the local community
  • supporting charities
  • standing up for what is right

We teach children that faith is not only something we talk about. It is something we live.

Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching helps children understand how to live as followers of Jesus in the modern world.

Through Catholic Social Teaching, children learn about dignity, fairness, solidarity, peace, care for creation and the importance of helping those most in need.

Our School of Sanctuary work links closely to Catholic Social Teaching. It helps children understand human dignity, solidarity, the common good and our call to welcome the stranger.

These principles help pupils think about others and understand their responsibility to make the world a better place.

Children are encouraged to put their faith into action through fundraising, service, prayer, environmental work and acts of kindness.

The GIFT Team

Our GIFT Team plays an important role in the faith life of our school.

GIFT stands for Growing in Faith Together.

The team helps to promote prayer, worship and Catholic life across school. They support younger children, help with liturgies, lead prayer activities and encourage others to live out our school values.

The GIFT Team gives pupils a voice in the Catholic life of the school. It helps children understand that they can lead through service, example and faith.

Working With the Wider Community

At The Willows, we want our children to understand that they belong to many communities.

They are part of their class, school, parish, local area and the worldwide family of the Church.

We encourage pupils to look beyond themselves and think about how they can help others.

Throughout the year, children support local, national and global causes. These opportunities help pupils develop compassion and understand the importance of service.

Our School of Sanctuary work also helps us make links with organisations and communities that support people seeking safety. Through this, children learn that welcome must be shown through words and actions.

Celebrating Our Faith

The Church’s year gives our school many opportunities to gather, celebrate and reflect.

As a community, we mark important seasons and feasts including Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Pentecost.

We also celebrate saints’ feast days, Marian devotion, Harvest, Remembrance, sacramental celebrations and other special moments in the life of the Church.

These celebrations help children grow in faith and understand the richness of Catholic tradition.

A Community of Welcome

Everyone is welcome at The Willows.

We want all pupils, families and visitors to feel part of our school community.

We respect each person as made in the image and likeness of God. We teach children to value difference, show compassion and treat others with dignity.

As a School of Sanctuary, we are committed to making sure that welcome is visible in our words, choices and actions.

Our faith calls us to love one another as Jesus taught us.
