Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to the final year of Key Stage 1! Year 2 is a busy and rewarding year in which children build on their achievements and begin to take greater responsibility for their learning.

Our class teacher is Mrs Morgan, supported by Miss Le-Saint. We are also fortunate to have Mrs Hayes, who leads our Forest School sessions.

Our classroom is a place where children are encouraged to think for themselves, work collaboratively and develop the confidence to tackle new challenges. We enjoy exploring fascinating topics, reading a wide range of books, developing our writing and using practical activities to strengthen our mathematical understanding.

As the oldest children in Key Stage 1, we also encourage Year 2 to set a positive example to our younger pupils.

Our Catholic Life

We encourage children to live out our Catholic values in the choices they make each day. Through prayer, reflection and our Religious Education lessons, children learn more about Jesus and how they can follow his example.

We join the whole school for Celebration of the Word on Monday and Wednesday mornings. On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, our celebrations take place in class, led by children or staff. Year 2 children are encouraged to become more involved in preparing prayers, sharing Scripture and helping others participate.

Supporting Learning at Home

As children's reading becomes more fluent, we encourage them to talk about stories, explain their ideas and develop a genuine enjoyment of books. Regular reading at home, practising spellings and developing quick recall of number facts and early times tables will help them make further progress.

Things to Remember

  • PE Days: Thursday and Friday

  • Music with Miss Mallinson: Friday afternoon

  • Private Instrumental Lessons: Brass and string lessons take place on Tuesdays. Woodwind lessons take place on Thursdays for children receiving instrumental tuition.

By the end of the year, we want every child to feel proud of their achievements and ready for the exciting move into Key Stage 2!
